At RSNA 2011, Siemens will showcase its two newest groundbreaking Imaging IT solutions, syngo.via* and syngo.plaza, representing the next generation of advanced visualization and agile PACS technologies that deliver cutting-edge functionalities to the clinical routine.
With syngo.via, Siemens’ imaging software for multimodality reading of clinical cases, the company is placing special focus on reading efficiency through automated case preparation and structured case navigation across multiple specialties, including cardiology, oncology, and neurology. Because syngo.via enables physicians to effortlessly access state-of-the-art advanced visualization tools across the clinical spectrum, the solution stands as an important milestone toward improving workflow efficiency and diagnostic confidence levels.
While syngo.via has been designed to integrate with existing PACS and Radiology Information Systems of all major vendors, Siemens’ innovative client-server technology incentivizes clinicians to use the software in conjunction with the syngo.plaza PACS solution, where users are presented with direct, no-click access between the two technologies and a unified user-interface for faster reading.
As the first PACS from Siemens where 2D, 3D, and 4D reading come together in one place, syngo.plaza is helping change the way the way multimodality images are read today. syngo.plaza also offers two viewing modes for users: a pre-configured intuitive interface as well as a customizable option that allows users to define and use the layouts they prefer, helping to streamline the reading workflow and eliminate time wasted adjusting to strictly one-size-fits-all PACS technologies.

The annual competition invites users worldwide to use their SOMATOM CT units to their fullest extent and demonstrate their best low-radiation images. Winners in eight categories will be assessed by internationally renowned CT pioneers and experts.
The Luminos Agile fluoroscopy/radiography system is the first patient-side controlled system with dynamic flat-panel detector technology, height-adjustable table and true dual-use capability for fluoroscopy and radiography. The Luminos Agile’s dynamic flat-panel detector provides an image that is up to 177 percent larger and allows for better patient coverage than a 13-inch image intensifier, enabling users to view objects without repositioning or changing the field of view, and reducing overall fluoroscopy time and dose.
The MAMMOMAT Inspiration Full-Field Digital Mammography System offers digital screening and diagnostic mammography, stereotactic biopsy and upgrade capability to future technologies – all in one system. To match breast density and thickness, the Inspiration offers three anode/filter combinations: Mo/Mo, Mo/Rh and w/Rh. The Inspiration’s Opdose® feature automatically selects the appropriate anode/filter combination and the lowest radiation dose for individual breast characteristics. Inspiration’s Opcomp® function applies compression only as long as the patient’s breast is soft and pliable – stopping at the point of optimal compression. The Inspiration’s unique MoodLight® LED light panel helps provide a warmer environment by illuminating soft pastel colors that can change dynamically or be set on one color. The material composition of the paddles also helps provide a smooth, warm feeling for patients.
The new syngo Neuro PBV IR (Parenchymal Blood Volume Interventional Radiology) 3D imaging software is designed to provide visual assistance to physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke and vessel malformations, including aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and stenoses. Using cone-beam computed tomography (CT) technology – syngo DynaCT – to produce a qualitative colorized image similar to CT perfusion, the syngo Neuro PBV IR aids the clinician in visualizing contrast-enhanced blood distribution in the arterial and venous vessels of the head, using color-coded relative values for diagnosis. This software helps physicians treat stroke patients directly in the angiography suite.
As part of Siemens’ commitment to dose reduction and the optimization of treatment results in hospitals, each newly purchased Artis zee® system is now equipped with all dose reduction/reporting applications as a standard. Existing customers of Artis zee systems will receive the new CARE (Combined Applications to Reduce Exposure) applications at no additional cost. More than 2,000 installed Artis zee systems worldwide are being updated to include the CARE package – a significant investment that ensures low dose as a standard for both patients and staff. The CARE applications reduce radiation and simplify post-exam documentation of dose values. With special applications such as radiation-free collimation and patient positioning, pulsed fluoroscopy and automated Cu-filtration, patient and physician radiation exposure is reduced up to 75 percent.
Siemens’ magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) power couple Tim® (Total Imaging Matrix) 4G and Dot™ (Day Optimizing Throughput) deliver patient-centered care and significantly improve productivity across the entire MRI workflow. Both technologies are currently available on two MRI systems: MAGNETOM® Aera 1.5 Tesla (T) and MAGNETOM Skyra 3T.
The fourth and most sophisticated generation of Siemens’ RF and coil technology, Tim 4G provides newly designed ultra-high-intensity coils combined with 48 RF channels – the highest standard channel configuration ever offered by Siemens. Dot is the most comprehensive MRI workflow solution, offering a customizable framework for patient personalization, user guidance and exam automation, facilitating optimal treatment results for virtually every patient type. With Dot, users can achieve up to 50 percent higher productivity, and several Dot engines are available for various clinical indications and body regions.
The Biograph mMR is the first system worldwide to provide simultaneous whole-body acquisition of data from MR and positron emission tomography (PET), enabling users to generate the location, function and metabolic activity of organs in a single image at the same time. Potential clinical applications for molecular MR include the early identification and staging of malignancies, therapy planning and treatment. The Biograph mMR shows the greatest promise in oncologic and neurologic applications where MR and PET have proven their clinical value. With the Biograph mMR, patients can be scanned in as few as 30 minutes for a combined whole-body exam, compared to one hour or more for sequential MR and PET exams. Additionally, the Biograph mMR has a footprint comparable to a standard, high-field MR scanner and can be sited in a typical MR room, eliminating renovation costs for facilities seeking to replace an existing MRI.
The ACUSON S2000™ system is built on Siemens’ most advanced next-generation acoustic technologies to offer superior architecture, advanced clinical applications and high-resolution transducers that deliver exceptionally high levels of detail. The ACUSON S2000 systems use Siemens’ proprietary micro-pinless (MP) transducer connector technology, optimized for high-frequency imaging, to deliver high-end 2D, 3D, Doppler and 4D imaging.
