New Trends in Digital Mammography.

Time:

2:00 PM- 3:30 PM

Author:

Andrew Karellas, PhD, and Maryellen L. Giger, PhD

Code: RC121

Objective:

This session includes two sections. The first is : Generation and Image Acquisition, which discusses new trends in X-ray generation, X-ray target, filtration and spectra for digital mammography. Attendees will appreciate the impact of X-ray spectral changes on parameters such as exposure time, contrast, and average glandular dose. This section reviews new trends in X-ray detectors for mammography, their impact on dose reduction, and their potential dual-mode use for digital mammography and breast . The section also discusses potential improvements for detectors for better visualization at low dose with some considerations to dual-mode use. The second section is Emerging Future of Digital Mammography, which discusses advances in digital mammography techniques and technologies and how they can be applied to clinical practice. Attendees will access the results of new clinical research in digital mammography, tomosynthesis and contrast-enhanced digital mammography and assess their potential applications to future clinical practice.  This section also assesses the potential use of technological innovations and advances involving digital mammography to enhance clinical practice and problem-solving.
